The Township of St. Joseph Fire & Rescue is operated by a contingent of approximately 20 trained volunteers. All members carry pagers and respond to calls all hours of the day and night, seven days a week throughout the year.
The department’s main equipment consists of one 800 gallon Pumper truck, one 1500 gallon Tanker and one Rescue vehicle. Located on these vehicles is equipment for fire suppression, auto extrication and ice rescue. Members receive training throughout the year on various fire fighting and rescue techniques as well as participate in events and campaigns to provide Fire Prevention Education to residents of the their community.
The Township of St. Joseph Fire & Rescue is a member of Mutual Aid which provides for back up service by and for neighbouring municipalities.
In the event of an emergency the department can be activated by calling 911.
The Department is administered by a Chief, Deputy Chief and four Captains and is located on the edge of Richards Landing at 1511 10th Side Road. If you would like more information, please call the Township Office at 246-2625.
Fire Permits
Fire Permits are required for all outdoor burning between April 1 and October 31 each year.
During this period there may be times when the Fire Chief or the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources find it necessary to institute a fire ban. Any burning (even with a permit) will NOT be allowed at these times.
Anyone burning without a permit, or burning during a fire ban may be subject to a fine of up to $1,000 and/or imprisonment for up to 3 months, plus the costs of extinguishing the fire.
Permits may be obtained at the Township Office, 1669 Arthur Street, Richards Landing, without charge.
